Our Catholic ethos and values are at the heart of our community at St. James’. Children receive an education rooted in the Catholic faith and Gospel values.

Here at St James’, Chaplaincy is at the heart of the school, with children having the opportunity to attend trips, services and Masses. Chaplaincy at St James’ is supported by a team of Year 11 Faith Prefects, who assist in leading prayer services, assisting at Masses and leading the younger Year groups in celebration of the Word.

The Priests of our local parishes support us as a Catholic community. The liturgical life of the school is a partnership of all members of staff, children and families. Children have the opportunity to explore their faith through prayer and reflection, retreats and activities in order to grow in God’s love. This is enabled by a large faith life provision for our school.

The Chapel is always open to children and staff, whether it be to come in for a quiet prayer or come and sit in a quiet space, we always welcome every member of our St James’ family.

The Chapel

“Let us go to the house of the Lord!”- Psalm 122:1

Here at St James’ we are fortunate enough to have our own dedicated Chapel, located in the heart of the school. The Chapel offers all members of our St James’ family a place of peace, tranquillity and reflection amidst the business of everyday life. The Chapel is the heart of our community and it is vital to the prayer life of the school and is used on a regular basis for prayer and Mass.

We are also fortunate at St James’ to have a prayer garden, offering students an outside space for quiet reflection; the garden features a statue of Our Lady, and offers a quiet corner for children to sit in nature and reflect before the statue. We have this wonderful space thanks to the fundraising efforts of staff and children.

RE Specialists use the Chapel for lessons of reflection with all year groups. These lessons allow our pupils to deepen their faith through focussed reflections linked to the curriculum
